Holly Hunter is an American actress and producer well recognized for her high-quality performance in films such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano and The Incredibles. The movie Piano won her several awards which included an Oscar. The accomplished actress started her career in acting by performing on stage, through a variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. She has always had an interest in acting from the time she started school. The first time she appeared in a play in fifth grade was as Helen Keller. Her mumps left her blind and deaf in the one ear. But she refused to let that to hinder her ambitions of becoming an actress. After studying drama in college, she moved into New York City with her ambitions in mind. Hunter met Beth Henley by chance in a lift. They wrote together Broadway Crimes of the Heart. The play was Hunter's first acting debut. Following her move into Los Angeles she tried to find film roles, and was able to secure the role of a co-star on Swing Shift. For the past 30 years Holly Hunter has been on numerous TV shows and films. Holly Hunter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has also won the Women in Film Lucy Award.
